Hong Kong local sand artist - HOICHIU
created the one of a kind,colored sand animation.With his internationally renowned sand painting skills,
He named it “RED EGG”.
This less than 5 minutes sand animation is about one’s life from start to the end,
RED EGG has been screened by 10 international film festivals, and won The Hong Kong ICT Awards (HKICT Awards): Best Digital Entertainment Award (Animation & Visual Effects Stream) Silver Award, and Special Mention (Visual Effects).

SYNOPSIS

“RED EGG” is created in year 2016, the story is about one’s life from start to the end, with the desire of chasing dream among every stages of life. It is about love, sorrow, anxiety, sickness, religion... Hoichiu invites audience to review life through this 4 mins 45 second animation.

1,582 sand paintings

RED EGG is a stop motion animation consists of 1,582 individual sand paintings.
The whole animation do not carries any narration, which offers space for imagination and interpretation.

Hoichiu

Hoichiu, renowned Hong Kong sand painting artist, his skills has been highly appreciated internationally. Hoichiu had created music MV for local singer Eason Chan and successfully made sand art popular in HK. He demonstrated his multi talent on puppets, paintings and stage performances with government departments, multi-national brands, international events, movies, TV stations and publishing medias. He also helped HKSAR on the creation of Hong Kong promotion video in year 2014.
2016 Hoichiu further develop sand art into animation, his first sand animation “RED EGG” has been screened by 10 international film festivals, as well as won The Hong Kong ICT Awards: Best Digital Entertainment Award (Animation & Visual Effects Stream) Silver Award, and Special Mention (Visual Effects). In 2017, supported by The Art & Development Council, Hoichiu created “DIGISOLATE” which won the Canada International Film Festival 2018 Rising Star Award (Animation Category).
